Shaker chairs were made by a religious sect in self-sufficient settlements in the USA over 100 years ago. Their chairs can
be difficult to find today because they are highly regarded by collectors, but a Shaker Tape seat may be woven onto a wide
variety of chairs and stools.
Shaker Tape is most easily described as a type of cotton webbing which is available in 1-inch widths and 5/8-inch widths as
seen in the samples pictured. It also comes in a wide variety of colors: Black, Blue, Natural, Olive Drab, Beige, Teal Blue,
Gray, Red, Cranberry, Rust, Bamboo (light beige), Hunter Green, and Butternut. It's also available in striped colors: Olive
Drab with a Light Brown center stripe and Black edges, Dark Brown with Olive Drab and Russet stripes, and Red with Olive Drab
and Russet Stripes.
Traditionally, the Shakers liked to weave their seats with red and black woven in a checkerboard pattern. However, you may
select any two colors you wish or any one color if you prefer a solid color. In addition to the Checkerboard Weave, you may
also select the Herringbone Weave, the Radial Weave, or the Diamond Weave.
